Discipline 02

02 Program management, planning & scheduling

Time is one of the main elements of a construction project. Construction scheduling manages and controls time in a realistic time frame that reflects the actual sequence of work. Actual progress should be compared to the baseline schedule on a regular basis, incorporating short-interval scheduling and critical path analysis, in order to avoid delays and make up lost time.

Plan the work and work the plan!

PRINCIPLES provides the owner, engineer and contractor with all types of time schedules, in line with the project goals and completion dates.

Discipline 03

03 Cost controlling & quantity surveying

Cost control commences at inception and ends with the agreement of the final account. PRINCIPLES quantity surveyors use a variety of methods and techniques to control costs during the pre-contract and post-contract stages of a project.

The purpose of our cost control procedures is to:
Provide the client with a value-for-money project.
Achieve a balanced design expenditure between the various elements of the building.
Limit the client’s expenditure to within the amount agreed.

Our quantity surveyors apply strict cost control throughout all stages of design and construction, so that the initial estimate, tender figure and final account are all closely related.

Several cost control methods which we provide
consultants, architects and clients will include:
01
Approximate estimations
04
Cost advice & comparisons of alternative materials & methods of construction
02
Cost planning
05
Cost monitoring & reporting during the construction stage
03
Financial statements

These cost control methods and periodic financial reports enable clients to anticipate and control their current and future financial project commitments.

Discipline 04

04 Engineering, procurement & construction management

EPCM is a project delivery method that involves the coordinated management of project design, procurement, construction and administration. It is best suited to projects that involve complexity, lack a degree of definition at commencement, and must be concluded within a short space of time.

EPCM involves a parallel approach to design and construction to condense project periods and minimize construction costs. It demands a high degree of planning and coordination throughout the project, but gives the client the opportunity to retain flexibility throughout the procurement of a project.

The EPCM approach allows clients to begin construction shortly after the commencement of the design, so that tendering and award of elements of the work can start before the design of later works is complete.

Discipline 05

05 Project feasibility studies

We provide feasibility studies, strategic planning, financial management and market assessments, creating long-term value for our clients.

We help achieve the necessary balance between the three basic components of any project, quality, cost and time, consistent with the client’s goals for the project to be successful.

Projects strategy development

A construction component manufacturer wanted a sustainability strategy that tied into its overall strategy to reposition itself as a solution provider for smart resource management in buildings, rather than a traditional parts supplier. We supported the client in developing a sustainability strategy with goals, measures and milestones for all major divisions.

Discipline 06

06 Project strategy development

Many fundamental construction decisions can be identified at an early stage and implemented firmly when applying what we call project strategy development, with the client’s standards, philosophy and any of the following applicable corporate objectives:

●
Financial analysis
●
Human resources management
●
Technology strategy
●
Systems design, development & implementation
●
Competitive strategy
●
Operational reviews & cost-effectiveness studies
●
Marketing analysis
●
Organizational structure development
Discipline 07

07 Claims management

Claims management services consist of advice or services in respect of claims for compensation, restitution, repayment or any other remedy for loss or damage, or in respect of some other obligation, including claims in litigation, under regulation schemes or voluntary arrangements. PRINCIPLES provides this service for the employer, the engineer and the contractor.

We provide end-to-end claims management solutions to support clients in complex construction projects and disputes. Our services cover the preparation, evaluation and defence of time and cost-related claims, including delays, variations and disruption impacts. We adopt a structured, evidence-based approach, supported by clear documentation and detailed project records.

Our team develops comprehensive claim narratives, supported by programme analysis and contractual assessment. We assist clients from early-stage advisory through to negotiation and formal dispute proceedings, and our expertise includes the preparation of professional claim submissions and expert reports.

We work closely with stakeholders to ensure clarity, compliance and strong claim positioning. Our objective is to safeguard client entitlements while minimizing project and commercial risks.

Discipline 08

08 Value engineering

PRINCIPLES can help balance cost, complexity and scope, helping you lower the cost of ownership, boost service levels and create new operations.

Our value engineering offerings help you migrate from legacy systems to newer, standards-based distribution architectures that meet today’s more stringent business demands. The services include pre-design workshops, value engineering studies and constructability reviews on various types of projects, at all phases of planning and design.

We work closely with our clients and their design teams to explore innovative, cost-conscious alternatives and solutions, to obtain the maximum return for each dollar. In addition to cost savings and design constructability issues, we explore areas for risk avoidance and claims prevention.
